Science Week!

We had a blast in Room 9 during Science Week! We had great fun doing daily investigations, using our scientific skills. On Monday, the children were challenged to make a bridge using limited materials. We tested each bridge to see if they could hold the weight of some blocks and they turned out great!

On Tuesday, we investigated whether raisins would sink or float in fizzy water.  We had great results as the raisins began to “dance” in the water, moving up and down.  The children did a great job recording the results.

On Wednesday, we created rainbow skittles. We watched what happened when we added warm water to skittles on a plate. The results looked amazing.

We had a busy day on Thursday as we investigated what happens when vinegar and baking powder are mixed. We created many different fizzy explosions! We tested how the reaction changed based on the amount of vinegar/ baking powder used. We discussed how they mixed to create Carbon Dioxide, which escaped through the bubble fizz. We even created a green fizzy explosion!

To finish off our fun week, we got our hands messy experimenting with cornflour. When mixed with water, cornflour creates a paste that looks like a liquid. However, when you apply force/ pressure the paste turns solid. The children had lots of fun experimenting with this. It was such a fun week full of investigations and it was great to see everyone get involved!
