2 D shapes and colour

November 16, 2023

We have been having lots of fun learning all about 2D shapes and colour this week. We learned that triangles, squares and rectangles have straight sides and corners and that a circle has 1 curved side. We cut out the shapes and used them make pictures of houses, trees and even snowmen. We constructed the shapes using cocktail sticks and modelling clay.

In science, we learned about the primary colours red, yellow and blue and that mixing them creates the secondary colours orange, green and purple. We coloured in a colour wheel to show which colours combine to create a new colour.

In art, we watched a PowerPoint about the Russian abstract artist, Kandinsky. We learned that he liked to experiment with mixing colour and painted in shapes, lines and patterns. Here is a sample of some of our finished “Kandinskys circles.”
