Namaste!

We have been learning all about the country India, its people, and their culture. We were so lucky to have Aayam’s Mam & Dad come into class to talk to us about life in India. They told us all about the food they like to eat and the festivals they celebrate. One of their most famous festivals, is called Diwali, it will be happening this year on the 12th November. Diwali is known as the festival of light as people light candles around their homes to ward off any evil spirits. We also learned that the number 0 originated in India, as did the game Snakes & Ladders and the exercise of yoga.

Aayam’s mam wore in a beautiful sari and gave all the girls bindis to wear on their foreheads. Teacher even got her hand painted with mehendi design.

For art we coloured in Rangoli patterns. Rangoli is when the people of India make beautiful patterns on their floors with colourful powders during Diwali.
