Active Week 2022

Active School

    Active School Week May 3rd - 6th 2022

We celebrated Active School Week last week - one of our favourite weeks of the year!

This year Active Flag wanted schools to reach out to local sports heroes to help moviate the pupils during Active School Week.  Each morning the pupils watched a good luck video from a local sports hero.  Our local heroes were: GAA players Hannah McGinnis, Cormac Costello, Lee Gannon; Dublin Hurlers Daire Grey and Eoghan O'Donnell; Olympic sailor Seán Waddilove; and former Irish golfer and Curtis Cup winner Maria Dunne.  This selection of taent aimed to give our pupils a small sense of the range of different sports avaialble in their locality.

We held two Olympic parades during the week - Junior & Senior Infants and 1st & 2nd classes.  The pupils marched in their country colours while the other years cheered them on.  There was an electric atmosphere in the yard!

Each morning two of our Active Student Council leaders led exercises and stretches over the intercom for "Wake Up, shake Up!"

All classes studies the PAWs water safety lessons during the week.  We are so lucky in Balbriggan to live beside the sea and it is especially important for our pupils to be aware of the potential dangers around water and how to stay safe.

Every day was jam-packed with dance, athletics, games, rugby, basketball, soccer, gymnastics, GAA sessions with Anthony, Sports Conditioning with Fingal Sports, field races and trips to the Astro - a fabulous Balbriggan resource.  Our focus area for PE this year is DANCE and the whole school performed 'An Dreoilín' together out on the yard.  Have a look at our round-up video showing our active children in action during a fantastic Active School Week 2022 by clicking on the picture below!
